Mr E Fulton (Head of Department)
The core aim of the Careers Education in Lisnagarvey High School is to assist students to acquire the skills, attitudes and abilities so as to be able to face confidently the challenges of their progression into the adult world of work and to meet the needs of employers.
A greater emphasis will be placed on skills development throughout all the Learning Areas (The Arts, English, Environment and Society, Mathematics, Modern Languages, Physical Education, Science and Technology and Religious Education).
Pupils are introduced to the whole concept of planning for their future through participating in a timetabled programme of study entitled, ’Education for Employability’ which looks at the requirements of individuals and groups in the adult world of work at a local, national and global level.
All pupils in the Senior School are encouraged to acquire knowledge and skills to enable them to plan and make informed choices about further and higher education, training and entry into the adult world of work and the whole ‘process’ of life-long learning.
In addition to the above, all post 16 students are given relevant advice, information and guidance regarding career choice, training and the continuation of education including University and alternatives.
All students are given assistance in completing their U.C.A.S. forms and, when requested, the C.A.O. application form.
Students are also given the opportunity to widen their work related and social skills by participating in at least one of the ‘Welcome Host,’ ‘Bright Futures,’ or ‘The Northern Ireland Children’s Enterprise’ courses.
