Idea Generation - Writing down words or ideas that link to a theme
Aesthetic – A word used to describe something of a pleasing appearance
Functional – Something that has a use rather than being simply beautiful

Illustration – An image designed to accompany text e.g. in a book
Engraving – A print method where lines are cut into the surface of a piece of metal
Casting – Making something by pouring metal into a mould

Texture – The surface quality or physical feel of a piece of art e.g. prickly, smooth
Caricature – A picture of a person that exaggerates their characteristics e.g. nose, eyes
Billboard – A large outdoor sign or advertisement

Alignment – To set up a type or image on the same vertical, horizontal or diagonal line
Watercolour – Paint made with colour pigment dissolved in water
Calligraphy – The decorative art of lettering in an ornamental style

Computer Graphics – Pictures made with the help of computers
Distort – To change the way something looks
Guillotine - A cutting device with a moveable blade used to cut through paper and card

Abacus – In architecture, a flat slab of concrete on top of a column
Ceramics – Objects made from clay baked in a kiln

Abrasive – A substance which wears down another surface by rubbing against it e.g. sandpaper
Freehand – Drawn by hand without the use of any other device
Acrylic Paint – This is a water-based ‘plastic’ paint

Elongate - To make a drawing look taller and slender
Pointillism - A method of painting when tiny dots of paint are placed on canvas
Retouch – To make corrections on artwork

Signage – The design or use of signs or symbols
Appliqué – A design made by stitching pieces of coloured fabric onto a larger piece of cloth
Enlargement – A larger version of an image or an artwork

Viewfinder – A small window cut in a piece of paper or card – help find an area to draw
Animation – Giving movement to a thing i.e. cartoon
Blotto Painting - Made when paint is place on one side of page and folded - symmetrical art
