Principal's Welcome

Image

Welcome to our website. I hope the contents will give you a sense of our commitment and enthusiasm. We take a modern approach to education and we have a vision for the school based on its values.

As a new Principal I established these values, after extensive consultation, and they are as follows;
- Mutual Respect
- Success fot All
- Serving the Needs of the Individual
- Caring and Responsible

Lisnagarvey High School is a pupil centred, all ability community school, where we value the relationship between pupils, parents and staff.

A new era has begun here, and as newly appointed Principal, my priority is success for all our pupils. Our facilities and resources are modern and of a high standard, particularily in the area of ICT, whcih is an essential tool in learning today. We offer a positive learning environment and our 'success culture' is at the heart of everything we do.

 We have made huge improvements in pupil attainment and have sustained outstanding GCSE results over the last two years. Recognition of this success has drawn praise from the Department of Education's Inspectorate and more importantly from our own parents.

Over 40% of pupils achieved Grammar school levels of success in achieving 5 or more GCSEs at A*-C. 10% of our pupils achieved 9 GCSEs many at A*. We now have a thriving 6th form of 50 students who have returned to do our four A-Level courses.

This level of success at our school is based on mutual respect and caring. We treat pupils as individuals and develop each person to fulfil their potential and bring forth their best.

Whilst academic achievement is important, we also lay emphasis on extra curricular activity and offer a wide ranging programme of sport, outdoor education, music and concerts.

These are exciting times for the school as we introduce new services, a new ethos and a new curriculum for our pupils.

The school vision for the future is centred on our increasing participation and partnership with parents, pupils and the wider community. This partnership is vital to the students’ social and moral development enabling them to grow into responsible and mature adults. As an Extended Community School, we are now open six days per week. We offer tution, training and facilities to develop all learners from 8.00am through to 9.00pm each week day.

The success which the school brings to our pupils and parents encourages us all to feel pride in, and ownership of, Lisnagarvey High School.

Yours sincerely
Jim Sheerin
Principal
