Design and Technology


Department Information

Students should have obtained at least a grade C (B is preferable) at GCSE Technology and Design to undertake this A level qualification. A good grade in Mathematics and English is required. Students should have a keen interest in the subject and should be willing to possibly work occasionally after school hours on practical work.

Students will be required to write notes, summarise references, con- tribute to discussions, work both in a team and individually. Students are expected to work on with coursework at home on a regular basis and will be expected to stick rigidly to coursework deadlines


Course Overview : Lower Sixth


The course is the Edexcel Advance Subsidiary (AS) GCE in Design and Technology which leads on to the A GCE in Upper Sixth .

The focus of the course is on Product Design: Resistant Materials Technology

A-Level Design and Technology and Career Options

This qualification can be further enhanced in Higher Education by following a degree in Business. It also enables students to progress to other business related qualifications such as Economics, Sociology, Accounting, and Law.
