Students should have obtained at least a grade C (B is preferable) at
GCSE Technology and Design to undertake this A level qualification. A
good grade in Mathematics and English is required. Students should
have a keen interest in the subject and should be willing to possibly
work occasionally after school hours on practical work.
Students will be required to write notes, summarise references, con-
tribute to discussions, work both in a team and individually. Students
are expected to work on with coursework at home on a regular basis and will be expected to stick
rigidly to coursework deadlines
The course is the Edexcel Advance Subsidiary (AS) GCE in Design and Technology which leads on to the A GCE in Upper Sixth .
The focus of the course is on Product Design: Resistant Materials Technology

| UNIT 4 Commercial Product Development |
This unit is a design and make activity. Students identify a client/user group from which they must design and make a product that meets the original need. Students must be familiar with a range of industrial applications and commercial working practices in order to fulfil the requirements of the unit. The activity will result in a manufactured product supported by a design folder, which includes ICT generated images, of approximately 26-30 A3 pages. This qualification can be further enhanced in Higher Education by following a degree in Business. It also
enables students to progress to other business related qualifications such as Economics, Sociology,
Accounting, and Law.

Civil Service, Financial Advisor, Insurance, Building Society, Banks, and many more.
