Lisnagarvey High School

Football at Lisnagarvey High School goes form strength to strength with success for both teams and individual players. The school turns out teams from Year 8 to sixth form and teams have had recent success especially in the league. Recently the U’15 team has won their league for the third time in a row while the U’14 team also won their league. There has also been success for individual players as pupils of the school have been picked for various representative honours. Ryan Irwin has been selected for the U’14 Lisburn District Team and also the Belfast District Team. Ryan Irwin and Matthew Boyd, two of our current pupils, are having trails with different premiership teams across the water.

During the year the senior school football team get to tour Liverpool when the team get to play against opposing schools and tour Old Trafford and Anfield football stadiums. This year the team will get the opportunity to play the Liverpool U’17 County Team. The tour always provides an excellent opportunity and experience for all involved.

Pupils also get the chance to travel to Ibrox in Scotland, home of Rangers Football Club, to watch the club take on rivals in the Scottish League again providing a great experience for all involved.

Both pupils and staff give up their time after school in order to train four days a week. Training after school always has a good turnout from all year groups.

One of the biggest events for football in the school is the annual primary schools five-a-side tournament when schools across Lisburn take part against each other for the Primary Schools Trophy. The last tournament saw the biggest number of players and teams taking part and the tournament was a great success. Both pupils and staff at the school cooperated to run the event which turned out to be a huge success and was enjoyed by all who took part.
