As Head Girl of Lisnagarvey High School I would like to welcome all the new and potential pupils. I came to Lisnagarvey as a Year 8 pupil in 2005, and I can honestly say that I could not have chosen a better school. Naturally, on my first day in Year 8 I was nervous and unsure as what I should expect. However, I received a warm welcome from both staff and pupils alike, and I immediately felt like a vital member of the school community.
I have always been a quiet person, but I feel that my experiences at Lisnagarvey have allowed me to realise my identity, and this has developed my self-confidence. Looking back on my first day in Year 8 it is hard to believe that my teachers and peers could have awarded someone who was once a shy and quiet the privilege of Head Girl. Throughout the past six years at school I have always been encouraged to set myself high standards and work hard to achieve them. This has especially been the case in my success at GCSE and AS Level. These achievements have not come easy, but with hard work and supportive teachers it was made possible.
Next year I would like to study for a Nursing Degree at Queen’s University Belfast. Once a shy and anxious Year 8 pupil on that infamous first day, I could never have believed that I could have enough confidence in myself to pursue a career in nursing. My advice to any pupils considering joining Lisnagarvey would be that, if you believe in yourself and work hard, your dreams may just come true.
Best Wishes

I would like to welcome you to the Lisnagarvey High School website. Since joining the school in September 2010, I have been provided with a series of opportunities, which have developed my talents, and allowed me to relish every challenge in order to reach my full potential. Previously, I attended Laurelhill Community College where I completed my GCSE examinations and then earned a place in the school’s Sixth Form. However, after two weeks, I felt that I would like to study at another school. Having consulted a few friends who praised their Sixth Form experience at Lisnagarvey, I decided to apply, and was fortunate enough to be offered a place at the school.
Initially, I was apprehensive about joining a new school, but my fears were groundless, as I was made to feel more than welcome by both staff and pupils alike. The Sixth Form at Lisnagarvey encourages mutual respect towards one another and this had made socialising an easy task amongst the school community. So far the work has been challenging, but I have enjoyed working hard to achieve good grades at AS Level, which were 2 B’s and C. Hopefully I can carry my efforts and success into my A2 year, and look forward to battling all obstacles that may fall in the way.
The school offers a variety of first-rate extra-curricular activities, and I have enjoyed participating in rugby, football and helping organising several charity events. My experiences at Lisnagarvey have helped guide me in choosing my future path in further education with the hope of studying Sports Journalism at Sunderland University.
The best advice I can give to anyone thinking about joining Lisnagarvey is “Work for the first fifteen years of your life and play the rest, or play for the first fifteen years of your life and work the rest.” Therefore, I think it is important to remember that we are in control of our own destiny, but it is equally as important not to become the obstacle that stands in our own way.
Best Wishes,
Joe Gale (Head Boy)
