Departmental Aim
The aim of the department is to give pupils the knowledge to make the correct choices. This knowledge will enable them to lead healthy and happy lives in the future.
An Overview of Key Stage 3 Curriculum
In key stage 3 pupils study basic safety and hygiene. They learn basic first aid and how to use the equipment in the room correctly. We then learn about nutrition and where our food comes from and how it is preserved and packaged. They are introduced to methods of cooking and produce dishes to improve their skills. In year 10 pupils are given information on consumer rights and how they will be able to find and run a home of their own.
An Overview of Key Stage 4 Curriculum
In key stage4 pupils choose to do Child Development or Hospitality for GCSE. In Child Development they learn about family, contraception, pregnancy and child birth. This is followed by the care and development of the child to the age of five. In Hospitality pupils study all aspects of the hospitality industry. This includes food preparation and service, housekeeping, reception and the many types of jobs now in this area of work. We have a bright well equipped kitchen with the use of computers. We are assisted by an excellent technician. Pupils are supplied with all their ingredients for the year, paying a small annual subscription.
