The Role and Value of Home Economics
The Aims of Home Economics should be:
To provide a broad balanced and relevant curriculum that should provide for practicalities responsibilities and experiences that may arise within the home, family and society.
Home Economics
(a) provides scope and opportunity for pupils to learn the principles of nutrition and practical food studies.
(b) provides opportunities to gain and use skills, help handle and use important issues that arise in family life including choice and management of resources.
(c) provides activities that allow pupils to make and to evaluate decisions that affect themselves as individuals within the family and within society as a whole.
(d) deals with matters that are crucial and important to all in our daily lives namely matters to do with home and family. Prepare pupils for the future.
(e) helps pupils appreciate importance of home and family and in particular the development of the individual within society and their contribution to society.
(f) assists in developing knowledge and skills necessary to the provision of healthy and imaginative meals
(g) enables effective management of resources within the home and family. To understand labelling and how to recycle.

(i) develops social and personal communicative and creative psycho motor skills.
(j) provides equal opportunities for boys and girls in the curriculum.
