Year 10 Homework

Create a list of at least 10 rules that apply to Art and Design and the art room and copy into homework books.

Think about ways to make marks on your page. What materials can you use? For example, pencil, pen, and paint. You can scrape into foil with scissors, needles, and pins. You can poke holes in your paper with a hole-puncher etc. Experiment on A4 paper and paste examples into homework books.

Look around your house or garden and choose a plant that you wish to study. Spend time studying the shape of the overall plant and then carefully look at the leaves and branches/stems. Sketch lightly using HB pencil and then complete using a black pen only. Try to create the detail using mark making techniques (see example sheets).

Produce a drawing of a packet of crisps and a bar of chocolate, for example, Skittles and Tayto. Half to be shaded using an HB pencil and the other half to be completed in colour. Emphasis placed on the lettering.

Set up a still life of a colourful bunch of flowers in a vase. You should place the vase in an interesting place, for example, onto a colourful table cloth and complete in colour. Please use the full A4 page.

Choose three very different looking vegetables, for example, cauliflower, carrots and peppers, group together, sketch and complete two vegetables in colour and one in pencil.

Select two ornaments from home, which interest you, for example, candle holders; pictures etc. and draw them in great detail. They must be shaded in HB/2B pencils.

Find at least twelve different surfaces or objects around the house, e.g. brick walls, coins etc. Place paper over the surface and produce a rubbing for each one with coloured pencils or crayons.

Set up a still life a toothbrush and toothpaste sitting at the bathroom sink and recreate in colour.

Place a mug or teacup onto a tray with teabag, spoon and biscuit beside it. Sketch in great detail and complete in pencil. Include as much detail as possible.

Set up a still life of your favourite foods, e.g. sweets, crisps, drinks or your favourite dinner on a plate and complete in colour.
